Did you remember to call your dad today?
Usually when I call it’s always mom who picks up and does most of the talking. Dad doesn’t talk much unless it’s to remind me that my car needs an oil and filter change or that I still haven’t done my taxes. However, when I really need a shoulder to cry on, or someone to discuss my deepest and darkest fears…he’s always there. I know my dad’s got my back.
I think a lot of us don’t recognize or appreciate what our fathers have done for us. Each time Mother’s Day rolls around you see people going all out. However, when it comes to deal old dad, we’re all a little confused just how to show our appreciation and love for them.
However, there’s no mistaking the love and support we’ve received from father and father figures in our lives.
It’s only fitting that we dedicate a day to show our appreciation from them.
How did it come about?
The idea of a special day to celebrate and honor fatherhood was first introduced right here in America. In the US, Father’s Day has been celebrated since June, 1910. We celebrate it on third Sunday of June every year. This is the day to appreciate the contributions and sacrifices a father or father figures makes for their child. Often, the sacrifices that a father makes go unnoticed and more often his love and care for his child is not valued as much by society. Father’s Day gives us the opportunity to express our love, adoration and gratitude to these special men in our lives. What better way to do that than to spend time with them?
What any parental figure wants most is time, appreciation and affection. So, take the time to visit your dad if you can today. Have a drink, bbq a couple of burgers, go fishing with him. Just spend some time listening and getting to know them. Their thoughts, dreams, experiences, fears and hope for the future. The best way to connect with your father figure is to just spend time with them. Even if they get a bit tipsy and start doing their silly dances that embarrass you SO much. It’s all worth it. Just to put a smile on their faces! Or give them a gift of some time away from their kids so they can watch the game in peace! Call your dad!
A great way to get some peace and quiet for a few hours would be to enroll your children in our summer camp! Watch with pride as your little one picks up a few cool moves and dances their way through life!
