ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Hip Hop Dance Classes for Kids Ages 8–12 in Austin

Vibe Builders is the third age group in the Danzversity youth ladder — the age where kids stop just learning steps and start finding their voice. Freestyle, cipher etiquette, personal style, and the confidence to step into a circle and own it.

This is the age where the work gets real. Kids 8 to 12 are old enough to learn full hip hop choreography — 16-, 32-, and 64-count combinations across multiple styles — and they're cognitively ready for what makes hip hop different from other dance forms: improvisation, freestyle, and finding personal style within a shared cultural vocabulary.

Vibe Builders classes at our Austin studio (7531 Burnet Rd, Crestview / North Austin) blend three things every session: structured choreography, freestyle moments where kids respond to music in their own way, and basic cipher etiquette — how to enter a circle, how to support the dancer who's going, how to find your moment without forcing it. These aren't just dance skills. They're the social-emotional skills that hip hop has always taught: confidence, respect, presence.

Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:45 to 5:45 PM. Most families come twice a week ($150/month) because the second class is where freestyle starts clicking; once-weekly is fine for kids just starting out ($100/month). Both options are flexible month-to-month subscriptions. The Tue/Thu schedule was chosen to work around school pickup, sports, and other after-school commitments.

Vibe Builders is the natural feeder to (You)nity Nights, our community cypher events, and to the Danzversity Youth Hip Hop Team for kids who want to take performance further. But you don't have to go that direction — most Vibe Builders just love the class, the crew, and the music. Either path works.

Culture, not competition. What separates Danzversity from a generic dance studio is that we teach hip hop as the cultural movement it actually is — born in the Bronx in 1973, carried by communities of color, built around values like self-expression, respect, and community. Even at age 9 or 10, kids learn that hip hop is something they're part of, not just something they're performing for parents.

Common Questions

What ages are Vibe Builders for?
Vibe Builders is our hip hop dance class for kids ages 8 to 12 — the third age group in the Danzversity youth ladder, after Flow Finders (5–7) and before Elementz Crew (13–17).
When does Vibe Builders meet?
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:45 to 5:45 PM at the Danzversity studio at 7531 Burnet Rd, Austin TX 78757.
How much does Vibe Builders cost?
$100/month for once-weekly attendance, or $150/month for twice-weekly. Both are month-to-month subscriptions cancellable through the student portal.
Will my child be in a dance battle?
Vibe Builders learn cipher etiquette and freestyle skills, but battles aren't a graded curriculum requirement. Kids who want to take it further can join (You)nity Nights or our Youth Hip Hop Team at the right time.
My kid is shy — will this work?
Yes. Vibe Builders is designed exactly for the "awkward middle" age — we build confidence gradually through group choreography first, then short freestyle moments, then cipher work. Most shy kids start opening up within 4–6 weeks.
What should my child wear?
Comfortable clothes they can move in (joggers, leggings, t-shirts) and clean indoor shoes — sneakers with a flat sole work best. No jewelry, no gum.
